Devils split with Alfred

HORNELL, N.Y. -- Fredonia State hung on for a 4-3 win over Alfred University in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader.

The Blue Devils (6-10) dropped the first game, 8-4.

A two-run double by Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fourth inning of the Blue Devils' 4-3 win.

Singles by Amanda Colburn (Jamestown/Falconer) and Ashley Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore), and a sacrifice bunt by Jenna Csont (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), set the stage for Mazurek's tie-breaking hit.

Mazurek also earned a save in relief of starting pitcher Sarah Burt (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford). Burt worked the first 3 2/3 innings while Mazurek worked the final 3 1/3.

Ashley Livermore (Randolph/Randolph) and Brittany Connell (Geneva/Geneva) had two hits each for the Blue Devils.

Connell also had two hits in the first game of the doubleheader. Tonja Royce (Forestville/Forestville) and Lindsey Drum (Wayland/Wayland-Cohochton) also had two hits and Mazurek collected two RBI.

Meghan Sullivan was tagged with the loss in her first collegiate pitching appearance.

The Blue Devils return to SUNYAC action with a home doubleheader Saturday vs. Oneonta, starting at 1 p.m. They are also at home noon Sunday for a pair vs. New Paltz.
