Cortland silences Devil bats

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland tossed a pair of two-hitters as the Red Dragons swept Fredonia State in a SUNYAC doubleheader. The Red Dragons improved to 20-7 overall and 8-0 in the league with the 9-1 and 9-0 victories.

The Blue Devils (9-16, 4-8) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the opener. Ashley Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore) led off with an infield single and was bunted over to second by Lindsey Drum (Wayland/Wayland-Cohocton). Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) followed with a double down the left field line to drive in Sullivan.

In the second game, a two-out triple to left center by Andrea Carlson (South Dayton/Pine Valley) in the third inning and a bad-hop infield single to Drum in the fifth were the only two Fredonia State hits.

The Blue Devils are back in action Sunday at SUNYIT.
