Mazurek wins first game of split with Fisher

FREDONIA, N.Y. Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) scatttered eight hits and struck out 11 as Fredonia State defeated St. John Fisher, 3-2, in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader.

Mazurek also had two hits and an RBI to help her cause while Ashley Livermore (Randolph/Randolph) tied a Fredonia State team record with her fourth homer of the season to lead off the Blue Devil fourth inning.

Livermore -- who has 14 extra base hits this season -- is the third player to hit four homers in a season. Melanie Yaskulski (2000) and Heather Mercer (2004) also had four-homer seasons for the Blue Devils.

Andrea Carlson (Forestville/Pine Valley) put the Blue Devils (12-17) in front 1-0 with an RBI single in the third inning following a double by Kim Menth (Tonawanda/Tonawanda).

The Blue Devils' Ashley Sullivan (Angola/Lake Shore) left the game with a finger injury in the first inning. Sullivan and Mazurek have been sharing the pitching duties this season, along with Amanda Waite (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), who started the second game Tuesday -- a 7-2 St. John Fisher victory.

Carlson and Lindsey Drum (Cohochton/Wayland-Cohochton) hit safely for the Blue Devils, who made four errors which resulted in three unearned runs off Waite.

The Blue Devils return to SUNYAC action with a doubleheader against Plattsburgh starting at 3 p.m. Friday.
