Devils split with New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. Ashley Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore) had the game-winning single to support a route-going outing by Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) as Fredonia State downed New Paltz, 3-2, in the first game of a SUNYAC doubleheader.

Sullivan's single to center scored Amanda Waite (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), who doubled down the line in left to lead off the 9th inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Andrea Carlson (Forestville/Pine Valley).

Mazurek completed the nine-inning complete-game with a scoreless inning. She scattered seven hits, struck out nine, and allowed one earned run to improve to 3-3 this season.

Sullivan took the loss in the second game, a 6-2 setback, but went 3 for 3 at the plate and raised her average to a team-high .371. Waite recorded three innings of scoreless relief in her first pitching apperance of the season. Nikki Prentice (Frewsburg/Frewsburg) and Ashley Livermore (Randolph/Randolph) had RBI singles.

In addition to Sullivan, Livermore and Jennifer Grabowski (West Seneca/West Seneca West) also had RBI in the first game.

The Blue Devils (4-7, 1-1) return to SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon at Oneonta and return home to meet Alfred in a non-conference twinbill starting at 1 p.m. Sunday.
