Bases-loaded walk forces in winning run

FREDONIA, N.Y. – A bases-loaded walk in the last of the sixth inning decided a SUNYAC pitchers' duel Friday in favor of Fredonia State, 1-0, over Plattsburgh.

Winning pitcher Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) drew the walk with two outs to force in Andrea Carlson (Forestville/Pine Valley), who walked to open the inning.

Mazurek pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts, while Plattsburgh's Jaclyn Leitz allowed two hits and fanned nine over 5 1/3 innings.

Reliever Stephanie Zwiej was the losing pitcher.

The game was played in a steady rain, which resulted in the suspension of the second game of the regularly scheduled doubleheader after two innings. There was no score at the time of the suspension. The teams have yet to make plans on when to resume the game.

The Blue Devils (13-18, 7-8) are scheduled to face Potsdam in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday, while Plattsburgh (17-14, 7-4) visits Buffalo State.
