U of R claims two W's

FREDONIA, N.Y. – After an eight-inning, 3-1 win in game one versus Fredonia State (13-19), the University of Rochester (25-16) exploded for nine runs in the night cap en route to a 9-1 victory.

In game one, the Blue Devil's Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) opened the scoring in the second inning. Mazurek dooubled and was knocked home by a Kim Menth (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) single.

Rochester tied the game in the fourth as Alicia Citro (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) connected on a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Jena Robertson (Tulsa, Okla./Tulsa Hale).

The Yellow Jackets scored the decisive runs in the eighth as Robertson and Citro each drove in a run. Christina Long (Wilmette, IL / New Trier) earned the win for the Yellow Jackets, scattering seven hits over eight innings.

Mazurek suffered the loss on the mound for Fredonia despite allowing only six hits in a complete-game effort. Jen Grabowski (West Seneca/West Seneca West) collected a pair of hits to lead the Blue Devils.

Game two was all Rochester, as they scored one in the first, three in the third, two in the fourth and three more in the sixth to seal the victory.

Jessica Sorrentino (N. Bellmore/Mepham) paced the offense with three hits, three runs and two stolen bases. Jennifer Moshier (Rhinebeck/FDR) earned the complete-game victory, allowing six hits in six innings.

Andrea Carlson (South Dayton/Pine Valley) drilled three hits for Fredonia State.

The Blue Devils will entertain Buffalo State in an important SUNYAC doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
