ALFRED, N.Y. – Fredonia State defeated Alfred University, 5-3, in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday.

Alfred won the first game, 3-2, in eight innings.

Jen Grabowski (West Seneca/West Seneca West) had two RBI while Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) and Amanda Waite (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) had two hits each in the second game for the Blue Devils (10-8).

Aimee Hammill (Lewiston/Niagara Catholic) pitched a complete-game eight-hitter for the win, her third of the spring.

The Saxons (5-10) rallied for a run in the seventh to send the first game into extra innings, then pushed across the decisive run in the last of the eighth.

Grabowski had two doubles, Mazurek two singles, and Waite took the pitching loss. She allowed seven hits and fanned six over 7 1/3 innings.
