Rochester ends Devils' win streak

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Fredonia State had its seven-game winning streak come to end Tuesday with a pair of non-conference road losses.

The University of Rochester tripped up the Blue Devils (25-13) in the first game of a doubleheader, 2-1, with an unearned run in the last of the seventh.

Rochester (15-20) won the second game, 3-1.

Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) was pinned with the loss in the first game after allowing seven hits and striking out five. She's the scheduled starter when the Blue Devils meet Geneseo in the opening round of the SUNYAC Tournament starting Thursday at Cortland.

The lone Fredonia State run was the result of a single by Andrea Carlson (Forestville/Pine Valley), a double by Heather Mercer (Horseheads/Horseheads), and a sacrifice fly by Jen Grabowski (West Seneca/West Seneca West).

Aimee Hammill (Lewiston/Niagara Catholic) was saddled with her first collegiate loss in the second game after six straight wins. She allowed nine hits and gave up all three Rochester runs in one inning.

Mercer had two hits and Ashley Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore) drove in the only run following a single by Carlson.
