The Blue Devils, the Plattsburgh Cardinals, and the Geneseo Blue Knights each received three top votes, while the Oneonta Red Dragons and Cortland Red Dragons received one first-plate vote each. Overall, the Cardinals earned 119 of a possible 132 points to earn the No. 1 preseason ranking, with the Blue Devils only slightly behind in second place with 117 points. Geneseo is third at 106 points. The Blue Devils defeated Plattsburgh in double-overtime during the 2006 SUNYAC Tournament, then fell to Geneseo in the title game. P.J. Gondek's team starts its season Friday at Nazareth. In the women's preseason coaches' poll, Fredonia State is ranked sixth with 82 points. The Blue Devils trail, in order, Oneonta (134 points; 7 first-place votes), Brockport (130; 2), Cortland (119; 1), Geneseo (117; 2), and Plattsburgh (90). The Blue Devils, coached by Chris Case, reached the tournament last year before they were eliminated at Geneseo. Their season opens Friday at Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville, Tenn.
