Thirteen Blue Devils named All SUNYAC
FREDONIA , N.Y. -- Thirteen Fredonia State student-athletes made their SUNYAC All-Conference selections in women's volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer.
Seven Blue Devils were First Team selections, including freshman outside hitter Bethany Kibbe (San Antonio, Texas/John Marshall), who was also chosen SUNYAC West Division Co-Rookie of the Year in womenb's volleyball despite missing several games due to illness.
Joining Kibbe on the SUNYAC West Division First Team in volleyball were senior middle hitter Elizabeth Schaller (Marilla/St. Mary's), and senior setter Traci Pieczynski (Lancaster/St. Mary's). Pieczynski was also First Team in 2004.
Sophomore outside hitter JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) was a Second Team pick in volleyball for the second straight year.
Three Fredonia State men's soccer players were 2005 First Team All-Conference in their sport: junior forward Matt Mahaffey (Lakeview/Frontier), senior defender Bryon Thoin (Buffalo/St. Joe's), and senior goalkeeper Matt Borchard (Williamsville/Williamsville East). Borchard was an honorable mention choice in 2003.
The selection of sophomore midfielder Trevor Ianni (Rochester/Gates-Chili) as a 2005 men's soccer honorable mention gave Fredonia State four all-conference players in the sport, the most since six players were chosen after the 2000 season. Four of the six made the First Team.
The lone 2005 Women's Soccer First Team choice was sophomore defender Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon), a honorable mention choice in 2004.
Bleecker was one of five women's soccer players cited by SUNYAC, the most ever in one season for Fredonia State. Sophomore midfielder Linsay Kulas (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) and freshman goalkeeper Becky Scoger (Spencerport/Spencerport) made the Second Team. Senior forward Jessica Weiser (Rochester/Greece Athena) and senior midfielder Anita Salinas (Rochester/Greece Athena) were honorable mention choices. Weiser and Salinas also received honorable mention in 2004, while Salinas was a First Team Choice in 2003.
