Men, women roll over Brockport
BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Winning every event, the Fredonia State women rolled to a 152-80 victory over Brockport.
The Fredonia State men were nearly as successful in their 127-91 win.
Sophomore Monica Dunlevy (Batavia) and freshman Jenna Stelmach (Hamburg/Frontier) were triple winners for the Blue Devil women. Dunlevy was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle, the 1,000-yard freestyle, and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay. Stelmach joined Dunlevy on the relay and also touched first in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
Junior diver Kelly Sponholz (Alden) was the top scorer in both 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diving. Fredonia State's other individual event winners were junior Lauren Sieber (Cheektowaga/West Seneca East) in the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Caitlyn Fields (Buffalo/Sacred Heart) in the 200-yard individual medley, sophomore Leiya Pujals (Kings Park) in the 100-yard butterfly, and junior Emily Dizer (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) in the 100-yard backstroke. Dizer also touched first in the 100-yard breast stroke was swimming in an exhibition.
On the men's side, sophomore Brent Davis (Albion) and sophomore Mike Seay (Grand Island) were triple winners. Davis finished first in the 50-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle, as as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay. Seay also was part of the 200-free relay; he also won the 100-yard backstroke and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay.
Double winners were senior Scott Horsington (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) in 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diving, and freshman Mike Mitchell (Medina) in the 100-yard breast stroke and 1,000-yard freestyle.
The Blue Devils return to the Steele Hall Natatorium for their next meet, 1 p.m. Saturday, against teams from Nazareth and Ithaca colleges.
