Allegheny next on Devils' home slate

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's second of four straight home meets is Saturday against Allegheny College.

The meet time is 2 p.m. inside the Steele Hall Natatorium.

"The competition this weekend is great for us," Fredonia State head coach Arthur Wang said. "Allegheny brings in a very competitive squad (judging) from the last year’s meet."

Both Allegheny squads earned more dual-meet points when the teams met last Nov. 18 at Meadville, Pa. So far this season, the Gator men are 0-4 and the women 1-3 swimming against the likes of NCAA Division II teams Clarion and Gannon and SUNYAC's New Paltz. The Fredonia State women are 3-1 and the men 1-3 in dual meets.

The diving portion of the meet on the men's side shapes up as being highly competitive. Fredonia State's Scott Horsington and Allegheny's Jayson Loeffert earned NCAA All-American honors last season.

On the women's side, Wang called Allegheny "a well-rounded group with no apparent weaknesses."

For the first time this season, the mile -- actually 1,650 yards -- is on the meet schedule. The other events in the swimming portion are (all distances in yards) the 400 medley relay, the 200 freestyle, the 50 freestyle, the 200 individual medley, the 200 butterfly, the 100 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, the 500 freestyle, the 200 breast stroke, and the 400 freestyle relay. There will also be 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diving for men and women.
