Sponholz sixth in NCAA 3-meter diving

OXFORD, ohio -- Fredonia State junior Kelly Sponholz (Alden) finished sixth Saturday in 3-meter springboard diving at the NCAA Division III women's championship meet.

Sponholz totalled 474.15 points, just over five points out of first place. The top three finishers, led by national champ Kendall Swett of Tufts, all broke the previous NCAA D-III record. "The bar keeps getting raised higher and higher," Fredonia State assistant coach John Crawford said minutes after the competition at Miami (Ohio) University. Sponholz received All-American honors as a result of her placement Saturday. She also finished seventh in 1-meter springboard diving finals Thursday. -------
