Fredonia State divers receive ECAC honors

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Two Fredonia State divers are the recipients of weekly awards made by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association.

Kelly Sponholz (Alden), a junior, and Scott Horsington (Churchville/Churchville-Chili), a senior, were selected divers of the week in the ECAC Division III category.

The awards were based on the outcome of Fredonia State's Jan. 12 home meet vs. Gannon University. Sponholz set SUNYAC and Steele Hall Natatorium records for six dives off the 3-meter board. She also won the 1-meter event and posted NCAA Division III qualifying scores in both events. Horsington also won both boards with NCAA qualifying scores.

Both divers are scheduled to compete Saturday when the Blue Devils compete against Nazareth and Ithaca colleges at Steele Hall. The start of the meet is 1 p.m.
