Fredonia State freshmen set team records

ROCHESTER, N.Y. Three Fredonia State freshman wasted no time putting their names in the Fredonia State record book Saturday.

Diver Teresa MacInnes (Tonawanda/Kenmore East), backstroker Alison Eckert (Eden/Eden), and freestyle Lexie Chapman (Lockport/Lockport) established new Blue Devil marks in their first collegiate meet.

One relay record was also broken but the four team marks were still not enough to keep Rochester Institute of Technology from claiming a 118-116 victory at the Steele Hall Natatorium.

MacInnes was the first of the freshmen trio to make the individual record book when she scored 193.10 points in 1-meter diving. She also won the 3-meter event later in the meet with 173.25 points.

Eckert followed with her record, a 2:21.22 first-place clocking in the 200-yard backstroke. She had also was part of the meet-opening record-setting 400-yard medley relay in which she, senior Kathryn Gordon (Hamburg/Hamburg) and freshmen Lisa Harder (Rochester/Greece Athena) and Stacey Krens (Brockport/Brockport) were clocked in 4:35.79. They finished second in the race.

Chapman set her school record in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:33.96 winning time. She also won the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.21).

Other individual winners for the Blue Devils were sophomore Katherine Langschwager (Churchville/Churchville Chili) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:20.33) and sophomore Cassie Austin (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford) in the 50-yard freestyle (26.49).

The meet also included several SUNYAC qualifying performances by the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils visit Edinboro at 1 p.m. Nov. 6.
