The Blue Devils will compete against seven other schools all day Saturday at the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Hobart and William Smith colleges. The meet starts at 9 a.m. The Blue Devils as a group had seven individual winners and one relay victory last Saturday at the Baldwin-Wallace Mid-February Meet. It was the final tune-up for many of the athletes heading into SUNYACs. Both Fredonia State teams finished sixth at last year's meet. The men garnered 46 points, the women 39. "We will be looking for improvement on last year's placing," head coach Nolan Swanson said. Assistant coach Paul Csont noted that the competition has stiffened in the conference this season. "We might do better as individuals," Csont said, "but still might do as well as a team. Some of the other schools have gotten that much better." The Fredonia State mens’ team is led by senior Nick Lord (Skaneateles/Skaneateles), who is ranked fourth in the 35-pound weight throw. Others ranked high in their events include junior Brett Csont (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), seventh at 55 meters and 10th at 200 meters; freshman Michael Kelley (Geneseo/Geneseo), sixth in the triple jump; and senior Tim Miller (Cheektowaga/St. Mary's), seventh in both the shot put and the weight throw. The women are led by sophomore Julia Hopson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington), ranked No. 1 in both the shot and the 20-pound weight throw. In addition, junior Nicole Smith (Amherst/Amherst) is fifth in the 200 meters and seventh in the 400; senior Rachel McNamara (Lakeview/Nardin Academy) is fifth in the 800 meters and sixth in the mile; and senior Aimee Milks (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) is eighth in the 800 and 10th in the mile.
