Hopson sixth in ECAC shot

BOSTON, Mass. -- Fredonia State junior Julia Hopson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) finished sixth in the shot put Friday at the ECAC championship meet at Harvard University.

Her throw of 12.47 meters -- which converts to 40 feet, 11 inches -- ended her season in the event. She will compete twice more in the 20-pound weight throw to close out her indoor season -- Saturday in the ECAC meet starting at 10:30 a.m., and next weekend at the NCAA Division III championship meet at Ohio Northern.

Hospon is the defending EcAC champ in the weight throw and is currently ranked No. 3 nationally in the event.

Also Saturday, junior Geoffrey Lesch-Wragge (Fredonia) will compete in the 800 meters at 2:10 p.m. He will need to run a 1:54.40 to qualify for the NCAA meet. His best time so far this season is 1:55.53.
