Galvin is state discus champ

BROCKPORT, N.Y.Jennifer Galvin (Pompey/Fabius-Pompey) won the New York State Collegiate Track Conference women's discus title at the state meet held in Brockport.

In addition, Fredonia State women set two school records and tied a third.

Galvin's winning discus throw was measured at 120'2". Her nearest competitor had a throw of 118'11".

Galvin was also fifth in the hammer throw with a heave of 139'2".

Like Galvin, Elizabeth Schaller (Marilla/St. Mary's of Lancaster) earned team points in two individual events. Schaller was fourth in the long jump (16'4 1/4") and fourth in the triple jump (34' 5 1/2"). She also was part of the fourth-place 4-by-400 relay team with Rachel McNamara (Lakeview/Nardin) and twin sisters Stephanie and Aimee Milks (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) with a time of 4:05. Their time broke a 15-year-old school record.

McNamara was fourth in the 400 meters with a school-record time of :59.11, Kristen Veltz (Brockport/Brockport) sixth in the 5,000 meters (18:53.35), and Krista Morse (Freedom/Pioneer) finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (:16.41) Morse's semifinal 100 hurdle time of :16.36 was a personal best.

The other school-record performance was turned in by pole vaulter Erin Ross (Amherst/Amherst). She tied her own mark by clearing 9'6".

The Blue Devils finished 11th in the team standings.

The Fredonia State men finished 13th overall. Charles Infurna (Rochester/Webster) was sixth in the hammer throw (155'5") and eighth in the discus (128'6"). James Sweeney (Albany/Guilderland) finished sixth in the 10,000 meters (33:00.76).
