Devils sweep LaRoche, Hilbert

HAMBURG, N.Y. -- Fredonia State improved to 16-5 with a pair of 3-0 wins Saturday.

In their first match, the Blue Devils downed LaRoche by scores of 30-12, 30-13 and 30-20. In the nightcap, the Devils were 30-8, 30-14 and 30-21 winners over host Hilbert College.

Sophomore outside hitter JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) was the top hitter vs. LaRoche with 12 kills. She also had 5 digs.

Also against LaRoche, junior middle hitter Stephanie DeGolier (Cassadaga/Cassadaga Valley) added 7 kills; freshman outside hitter Amy Bertrando (Westfield/Westfield) had 6 kills and 3 blocks; sophomore outside hitter-defensive specialist Paula Baire (Lancaster/Nardin) had a team-high 9 digs; and senior setter Traci Pieczynski (Lancaster/St. Mary's) collected 21 assists and 7 digs.

Against Hilbert, Bertrando had a team-high 7 kills; DeGolier added 5 kills and 7 blocks; Baire 9 digs; sophomore defensive specialist Allyson Strein (Mineola/Mineola) 7 services aces; and Pieczynski 16 assists, 5 aces, and 7 digs.

The Blue Devils, ranked No. 10 in the New York State Women's Collegite Athletic Associaiton poll, have a home game Tuesday at 7 p.m. vs. Medaille.
