Clarkson outlasts Devils

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Clarkson rallied to win the final games of a 3-2 match victory over Fredonia State at the NYSWCAA Tournament at Ithaca College.

The Blue Devils (24-12) were attempting to earn a share of fifth place with the win. They lost the first game 27-30, won the next two 30-23 and 30-21, then dropped the final two by scores of 27-30 and 6-15.

Sophomore outside hitter JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) and freshman outside hitter Amy Bertrando (Westfield/Westfield) were Fredonia State's top hitters with 14 kills each.

In addition, junior middle hitter Stephanie DeGolier (Cassadaga/Cassadaga Valley) collected 6 kills and a team-high 6 blocks; freshman outside hitter Tonja Royce (Forestville/Forestville) added 7 kills, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 digs; freshman outside hitter Bethany Kibbe (San Antonio, Texas/John Marshall) led the the team with 20 digs; and senior setter Traci Pieczynski (Lancaster/St. Mary's) added 44 assists and 9 digs.

The Blue Devils are back in action Friday vs. New Paltz in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament at SUNY Cortland.
