Braun claims second Coach of Year award

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- For the second time in his career, Fredonia State's Geoff Bruan is SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year.

Meanwhile, four Blue Devils received All SUNYAC awards at the pre-tournament banquet -- including the West Division Rookie of the Year.

Braun received his coaching award last Thursday prior to leading his team to a second-place finish in the SUNYAC Tournament. The Blue Devils (26-13) were attempting to win the program's first conference title before falling to nationally ranked Cortland. In nine seasons as head coach, Braun has accumlated a record of 188-122. The 26 wins this season is a new school record, topping three previous seasons of 24 wins. His previous SUNYAC Coach of the Year honor came in 2003.

The SUNYAC West Division Rookie of the Year award was bestowed upon freshman middle blocker Kaitlin Erdmann (Randolph), while two teammates were chosen All SUNYAC West Division First Team: senior middle blocker JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) and junior setter Alyssa Torpy (West Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta). In addition, junior outside hitter Amy Bertrando (Westfield) was a Second Team selection.

For Dixon, the lone senior on the squad, the All SUNYAC award was his fourth as a Blue Devil. She was an honorable mention choice as a freshman, Second Team as a sophomore, and First Team her last two seasons. Bertrando was a First Team choice last season, while Torpy was cited by conference coaches for the first time.
