Devils outlast Potsdam at RIT Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Fredonia bounced back from a 3-0 loss to RIT with a 3-2 win over Potsdam on the first day of the RIT Tournament.

Sophomore outside hitter Leanne Maloney (West Seneca/Mount Mercy) had 17 kills and 28 digs in the 30-32, 30-24, 30-22, 31-33, 15-8 victory over Potsdam. Sophomore outside hitter Amy Bertrando (Westfield/Westfield) collected 14 kills, sophomore setter Alyssa Torpy (West Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) was credited with 39 assists, and sophomore defensive specialist Val Grell (Lancaster/Lancaster) had six service aces and 15 digs.

Earlier Friday, the Blue Devils (8-5) dropped a 30-20, 30-18, 30-19 decision to host Rochester Institute of Technology. Torpy was credited with 18 assists, Maloney with seven kills, and junior outside hitter JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) had 13 digs.

The Blue Devils return to RIT Tournament play 10 a.m. Saturday against either the University of Rochester or St. John Fisher.
