The Blue Devils (10-2) wore down RIT (9-2) by scores of 32-30, 30-25 and 30-19 to advance to the championship round the RIT Tournament. JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) was the winners' top hitter with 10 kills. She was joined by a trio of teammates with nine kills each: Bethany Kibbe (San Antonio, Texas/John Marshall), Liz Schaller (Marilla/St. Mary's), and Stephanie DeGolier (Cassadaga/Cassadaga Valley). In addition, Kibbe was credited with 13 digs, while DeGolier had five blocks. Fredonia State entered play No. 5 and RIT at No. 3 in the most recent New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association poll. The competition remains strong Saturday for the Blue Devils, winners of eight straight matches. They face No. 2 ranked Cortland at 10 a.m., while No. 1 ranked New York University meets No. 7 Ithaca in the other semifinal match. The two winners meet for the tourney title at 4 p.m., with the consolation match scheduled for 2 p.m. Earlier Friday evening, the Blue Devils won their seventh straight match of the season with a 3-0 victory over Buffalo State. Dixon had 10 kills, Allyson Strein (Mineola/Mineola) eight digs, and Pieczynski 23 assists in the 30-10, 30-15, 30-18 win.
