Devils third at RIT Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Fredonia State finished in third place at the RIT Invitational Tournament.

The Blue Devils (11-3) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Ithaca College by scores of 25-30, 27-30, 32-30, 30-26, and 15-7 in the consolation game Saturday.

Earlier in the day, the Blue Devils had an eight-match winning streak broken in a 30-25, 30-28, 30-26 loss to Cortland.

In the Cortland loss, Liz Schaller (Marilla/St. Mary's) was Fredonia State's top hitter with 14 kills. In addition, Paula Baire (Lancaster/Nardin) had 15 digs and Traci Pieczynski (Lancaster/St. Mary's) was credited with 33 assists.

Against Ithaca, Bethany Kibbe (San Antonio, Texas/John Marshall) showed the way with 25 kills, 15 digs, and seven blocks. Also, Schaller had 12 kills and 10 blocks; Baire 40 digs, Pieczynski 57 assists and nine digs, and JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) 20 kills.

Fredonia State entered the tournament ranked No. 5 in the most recent New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association poll.
