Devils down Skidmore, Point Park at Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Fredonia State opened its 2005 with a pair of wins at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic.

Bethany Kibbe (San Antonio, Texas/John Marshall) recorded 16 kills and 26 digs in a 31-29, 30-24, 26-30, 30-28 victory over Skidmore.

Stephanie DeGolier (Cassadaga/Cassadaga Valley) added 14 kills and three blocks, Liz Schaller (Marilla/St. Mary's) 10 kills and two blocks, Paula Baire (Lancaster/Nardin) 27 digs, and Traci Pieczynski (Lancaster/St. Mary's) 33 assists.

The Blue Devils followed up with a 31-29, 30-18, 30-25 victory over Point Park. Schaller was dominant at the net with 11 kills, two blocks, and a .846 hitting percentage.

In addition, Baire added 11 more digs while Kibbe had seven kills, nine digs, and three aces.

The Blue Devils face host Cortland at 10 a.m. Saturday and either Lebanon Valley or New Paltz later in the day.
