Devils top Morrisville, fall to Brockport

GENESEO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State split a pair of matches Friday on the first day of SUNYAC West Division Pool Play at Geneseo.

After sweeping Morrisville 3-0, the Blue Devils (7-9, 1-1 SUNYAC) won its first two games against Brockport before dropping the next three and the match, 3-2.

Pool play for the Blue Devils resumes Saturday with a noon matchup with Buffalo State, followed by matches against Oswego (2 p.m.) and host Geneseo (6 p.m.)

Here's a capsule look of the Friday matches, provided by the Geneseo sports information department:

Fredonia (30-30-30), Morrisville (11-23-8)
Fredonia's Amy Bertrando posted 12 kills and JaHanna Dixon added 10 kills and five digs to lead the Blue Devils. Junior Alyssa Torpy handed out 34 helpers. Morrisville got six kills, six digs from Ebony Whitfield and nine assists from Jill Pedulla. Records: Fredonia (7-8, 1-0), Morrisville (6-9, 0-2).

Brockport (26-23-30-30-15), Fredonia (30-30-27-14-9)
Brockport's Bethany Ortman pounded 25 kills and Kaylen Fessette handed out 62 assists as the Golden Eagles came back from two games down to win the match. Senior Shae Gilmore contributed 14 kills, 16 digs and Hilary Dank added 11 kills, 28 digs for the Golden Eagles. Fredonia was led by JaHanna Dixon and Leanne Maloney, who had 16 kills each, while Alyssa Torpy produced 51 assists. Records: Brockport (9-7, 2-0), Fredonia (7-9, 1-1)
