Torpy torrid in win over Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. -- Sophomore setter Alyssa Torpy (West Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) assisted on nearly half of Fredonia State's scoring in a 3-0 victory over Alfred University.

Torpy was credited with 41 assists in a 30-6, 30-13, 30-21 NCAA Division III win by the Blue Devils (3-3). The total is a career-best for Torpy and the fourth time this season she's collected 35 assists or more in a match.

Fredonia State was led at the net by sophomore outside hitter Amy Bertrando (Westfield/Westfield) with 10 kills, while junior outside hitter JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) had 10 digs.

Sophomore defensive specialist Val Grell (Lancaster/Lancaster) led the team with five service aces.

The Blue Devils are back in action Friday, Sept. 8, vs. Medaille in the first of four weekend matches at the Penn State Behrend Tournament.
