Martin leads Devils to sweep
ERIE, Pa. – Senior middle hitter Heather Martin (Allegany/Allegany-Limestone) had 11 kills, 11 digs and four blocks -- all team highs -- as the Blue Devils swept Pitt-Bradford in the first of two matches in the Penn State Behrend Invitational.
Junior middle hiter Liz Schaller (Lancaster/St. Mary's) had eight kills and two blocks in the 30-28, 20-14, 30-15 victory. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Drun (Wayland/Wayland-Cohocton) added seven kills, six digs and three blocks while freshman defensive specialist Allyson Strein (Mineola/Mineola) had 11 digs. A 30-24, 28-30, 30-17, 30-18 victory over Bethany featured Martin's 18 kills, seven aces, nine digs and four blocks. Schaller had 13 kills and two blocks, junior setter Traci Pieczynski (Lancaster/St. Mary's) 38 assists and 15 digs, and junior setter-defensive specialist Kim Schmitz (Derby/Lake Shore 16 digs. The Blue Devils (5-2) can win at least a share of the tournament championship with victories Saturday over Medaille (1:30 p.m.) and Geneva (3:30 p.m.).Athletics Home | Fredonia Home
