Devils split on Day 2 at Behrend

ERIE, Pa. – Fredonia State defeated Medaille, 3-0, and fell to Geneva, 3-0, on the second day of the Penn State Behrend Invitational.

The Blue Devils (6-3) were 3-1 over the weekend to finish in second place.

Senior middle hitter Heather Martin (Allegany/Allegany-Limestone) had 11 kills, 14 digs, and nine blocks in the 30-22, 30-23, 30-6 victory over Medaille. "Heather just dominated the net," head coach Geoff Braun said. She was selected to the all-tournament team.

Freshman outside hiter JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) collected a season-high 12 kills in the win. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Drum (Wayland/Wayland-Cohocton) continued her strong weekend with eight kills and had a .444 hitting percentage. Junior defensive specialist Kim Schmitz (Derby/Lake Shore) had 11 digs while junior setter Traci Pieczynski (Lancaster/St. Mary's) collected 38 assists.

In a 31-29, 30-24, 31-29 loss to Geneva, Pa., Dixon led the Blue Devils (6-3) with 10 kills, Martin had 13 digs and a team-high three blocks, Drum had nine kills, Schmitz 14 digs, and Pieczynski 21 assists.

The Blue Devils play their home opener 7 p.m. Tuesday vs. Pitt Bradford.
