Fredonia State sweeps Clarkson, St. Lawrence

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Down two games to none, the Blue Devils came all the way back to defeat Clarkson (16-9) three games to two in the opening match of the Oswego State Tournament. Clarkson won by scores of 30-17 and 30-25 before Fredonia State took the final three, 30-24, 30-23 and 15-9.

Senior Heather Martin (Allegany/Allegany-Limestone) led the attack with a team-best 26 kills and 13 digs.

Junior Liz Schaller (Marilla/St. Mary's) had 12 kills while sophomore Lindsey Drum (Wayland/Wayland Cohocton) was credited with 10 digs, seven kills and four aces.

In the nightcap, the Devils took care of St. Lawrence (12-13) three games to one (30-19, 30-23, 24-30 and 30-25). It was again Martin leading the charge with 13 kills and 15 digs. Schaller produced 10 kills and three blocks, while JaHanna Dixon (Hamburg/Frontier) collected eight kills and seven digs.

The Blue Devils (17-8) will begin day two of the tournament 10 a.m. Saturday.
