After leading 2-1, the Blue Devils (18-9) ran out of steam and fell 21-30, 30-22, 30-28, 24-30 and 8-15. "We played a really good team really tough," head coach Geoff Braun said. "We gave a really good effort for the first four games, and that was it." Senior Heather Martin (Allegany/Allegany-Limestone) led Fredonia State in three statistical categories with 18 kills, 26 digs, and seven blocks. Sophomore Lindsey Drum (Wayland/Wayland-Cohocton) added eight kills, 21 digs, and four blocks. Junior Liz Schaller (Marilla/St. Mary's) had 11 kills, five digs, and three blocks while Karen Francis (Batavia/Batavia) collected 10 kills, four digs, and one block. In addition, Traci Pieczynski (Lancaster/St. Mary's) contributed 40 assists, 19 digs, and three kills and Kim Schmitz (Derby/Lake Shore) had 21 digs and three aces. Earlier in the day, the Blue Devils downed Hartwick in three games, 30-21, 30-28 and 30-15. Martin led the way with 15 kills, 11 digs and one block. Schaller added seven kills and three blocks, Schmitz 10 digs, and Pieczynski 28 assists and nine digs. The Blue Devils are home to University of Rochester at 7 p.m. Tuesday before playing host to SUNYAC Western Division Pool Play next Friday and Saturday.Athletics Home | Fredonia Home
