Devils win first two pool play matches

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Fredonia State outlasted host Brockport, 3-2, in SUNYAC Western Division Pool Play action Friday night.

The Blue Devils (12-5, 2-0) swept Oswego, 3-0, earlier in the day.

Senior middle hitter Heather Martin (Allegany/Allegany-Limestone) posted 16 kills, 19 digs and four blocks in the 21-30, 30-28, 30-28, 15-30, 15-9 victory over Brockport (7-8, 1-1). Freshman defensive specialist Allyson Strein (Mineola/Mineola) chipped in with 18 digs.

Martin was also the leader in the Blue Devils' 30-16, 30-22, 30-28 victory over Oswego. She had 12 kills, 14 digs, four aces and three blocks. Junior setter Traci Pieczynski (Lancaster/St. Mary's) collected 39 assists.

The Blue Devils resume pool play with two more matches Saturday: noon vs. Geneseo, 2 p.m. vs. Buffalo State. Geneseo also won both its matches Friday, while Buffalo State split a pair.
