Devils score early and often

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State led wire-to-wire in a 79-43 victory over SUNY Potsdam Friday at Steele Hall.

The Devils (9-4, 3-2 SUNYAC) took a commanding lead early in the contest. Consecutive baskets by Amy Bertrando (Westfield/Westfield) and a Maria Scaffidi (Buffalo/Holy Angels) free throw at 11:51 put the Devils up 24-4. It would be their largest lead of the half.

The Bears were plagued by 32 turnovers.

Four Devils reached double figures. Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) connected for a game-high 21. Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/ Williamsville North) scored 14, Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) had 13 and Scaffidi had 12. Scaffidi also had five steals and five assists. Kindzia, the SUNYAC's leading rebounder, grabbed a game-high 13 boards.

Potsdam was led by Kathleen Lewis and Clare Ennis with 10 points apiece.

The Blue Devils are at home again Saturday at 6 p.m. as they take on Plattsburgh State.
