Devils break through with SUNYAC road win

GENESEO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State ended a four-game losing streak for its first SUNYAC win of the season, 66-56, over Geneseo.

The Blue Devils (5-8, 1-5 SUNYAC) came into the game having lost eight of their previous nine games. Nonetheless, the took an early lead and pushed it out to double figures for the remainder of the game, including 31-21 at halftime. Their largest lead, 41-23, came early in the second half.

Senior forward Lisa Gentile (Utica/Whitesboro) led with 16 points and eight rebounds, junior forward Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) had 15 points and nine boards, and junior guard Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) added 14 points and eight rebounds.

In addition, junior guard Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) had a career-high 10 assists. Annie Verdino had 15 points and eight rebounds for Geneseo (7-6, 2-2 SUNYAC).

It was the first Blue Devil regular-season win at Geneseo since the 1989-90 season, a stretch which covered 15 straight losses. Their only other success in Geneseo over that span was a 66-65 SUNYAC Tournament win in 2002-03.
