Oneonta surges past Blue Devils

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta started a rally late in the first half and carried it through to the second half en route a 67-51 SUNYAC win over Fredonia State.

The Blue Devils (5-9, 0-6 SUNYAC) scored the first nine points of the game before the Red Dragons (9-4, 5-1 SUNYAC) mounted their first rally, culminating in an 11-11 tie midway through the first half.

Regrouping before the half was over, the Blue Devils edged back out to a nine-point lead, 26-17, on a layup by Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) with 5:44 left in the half.

Fredonia State was still leading by eight points, 30-22, before Oneonta started its decisive comeback with a 10-2 run. After the teams were tied 35-35 with 16:22 to go, the Red Dragons pulled away to lead by as many as 18 points late in the game.

Kindzia finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils, Alexandria Haitz (Batavia/Notre Dame) had 13 points and four rebounds, and Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia) finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Maria Scaffidi (Buffalo/Holy Angels), held to two points, contributed eight rebounds and seven assists.

Casey Snyder (Colonie) led a balanced attack with 16 points for the Red Dragons, winners of seven straight games.

Fredonia State is back in action next Friday at Morrisville State.
