The win coupled with a win by Oneonta knotted the teams at 6-2 in the conference, one game behind Oswego and two games behind conference-leading Cortland. Fredonia State plays Friday at Oswego and Saturday at New Paltz. The Blue Devils (11-4 overall) overcame a seven-point deficit in just under one minute early in the second half. Down 41-34 with 17:30 on the clock, Fredonia State forged a 41-41 tie on a three-point basket by sophomore Maria Scaffidi (Buffalo/Holy Angels), a basket by sophomore Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North), and another basket by Scaffidi. The teams were tied twice more after that (and were tied nine times overall) before a three-point basket by Fredonia State sophomore Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) put her team in the lead for good, 51-48, with 11:25 to go. Fredonia State made 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch after Brockport was forced to foul. Four Blue Devils scored in double figures. Scaffidi and junior Lisa Gentile (Utica/Whitesboro) led with 18 points each. For Scaffidi, it was her season high and her third straight game in double figures. For Gentile, who also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, the 18 points tied her season-high game. Bleecker added 16 points and Kindzia had 14 points and eight rebounds. The fifth Fredonia State starter, junior Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean), was credited with nine assists and four steals. The Golden Eagles (8-7, 4-3 SUNYAC) also had four players in double figures, led by sophomore Ashley Broadhurst (Sauquoit/Utica-Notre Dame) with 13 points. Senior Lauren Evans (Auburn/Auburn) and sophomore Kim Schon (Corfu/Lockport) had 12 points each, while freshman Kiomi Matthews (Rochester/Irondequoit) added 10.
