Devils rally for third straight win

LYCOMING, Pa. -- Fredonia State rallied twice in the second half en route its third straight win, a 47-43 victory Friday over Rutgers-Camden at Lycoming University.

The Blue Devils (5-4) erased a nine-point deficit midway through the second half, only to fall back behind by eight points a short while later. With her team trailing 40-32, Maria Scaffidi (Buffalo/Holy Angels) started a second rally with a three-point basket with 6:07 remaining. A lay-up by Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia), a three-point basket by Caroline Hourihan (Buffalo/Nardin), and two free throws by Scaffidi pushed the Blue Devils out to a 42-41 lead, their first of the game.

Following a Rutgers-Camden free throw, a made jumper by Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) with :25 seconds broke the tie. Two free throws by Scaffidi and one by Hourihan put the game on ice.

Kindzia finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, her sixth double-double of the season. Scaffidi added 13 points and had seven steals. Hourihan finished with 10 points.

The Blue Devils close out their eastern trip with a 3 p.m. game Saturday against host Lycoming, which defeated Buffalo State, 64-56, earlier Friday.
