The Blue Devils (7-3) led 33-28 at the halftime and had double-digit leads several times, the largest at 13 points. They were up 52-42 with 7:01 left, only to have the Tomcats battle back to tie 52-52 on a jumper by Bodrick with 2:43 to go. Gentile broke a 54-54 tie with 1:28 left when she caught the ball in the low post, dribbled around two defenders, and made a layup. An apparent tying layup by Thiel was negated when officials ruled the shot clock had sounded just before the shot. The Blue Devils countered with a long possession of their own culminating with Baker's basket with 31 seconds remaining. She spun free of a defender and launched a short jumper just ahead of the shot-clock buzzer. Thiel's Amber Bodrick (Boardman, Ohio) connected on a jumper in the paint with :05 left, two of her team-high 21 points. The Tomcats (3-11) were then forced to foul four times in the final five seconds to get Fredonia State into the bonus situation. Sophomore forward Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) put the game on ice by hitting both ends of a one-and-one. She finished with a game-high 22 points, 15 of them in the first half. Sophomore forward Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Baker had 10 points and five assists. Nicole Valentino (Sharon, Pa.) had 13 points and Fontella Jones (Farrell, Pa.) added 11 for Thiel. Fredonia State is back at home 6 p.m. Tuesday for a SUNYAC game vs. Oswego.
