Devils lead wire to wire at Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State scored first and led wire to wire in defeating Buffalo State 67-49 in women's college basketball Tuesday evening.

The Devils used defense the first half, limiting the Bengals to 4 of 28 (14%) shooting from the field en route to a 29-14 advantage at the break. Buffalo State missed its first 11 field goal attempts. Fredonia State shot 12 for 25 (48%).

The second half, free throws were the key. In 26 trips to the line, the Devils converted 20 times (77%). Buffalo State was 9 for 17 (53%) in the half. The Blue Devils led by as many as 28 points.

The Devils were paced by Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) with 19 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and two assists.

Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) had 16 points, including a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line. She also led the team with six asists.

Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) and Lisa Gentile (Utica/Whitesboro) added 12 and 10 points, respectivly. It was a career high for Gentile.

Buffalo State (1-3, 0-1 SUNYAC) was led by Cat Ejimadu with nine points.

Fredonia State (3-1, 1-0) is back in action Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3 when both the women and men travel to Cortland and Oneonta.
