Devils close out first semester with a win

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State extended its winning streak to three straight with a 75-56 non-conference win over Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Blue Devils (6-2) led 39-24 at halftime while shooting 58.6 percent from the field (17 of 29). They led by as many as 26 points late in the second half to close out the first semester of the schedule on a winning note.

Sophomore forward Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) had 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field. She also grabbed eight rebounds.

Sophomore forward Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) chipped in with 14 points, while junior guard Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) had 11 points and six assists.

Sophomore guard Maria Scaffidi (Buffalo/Holy Angels) led the Blue Devils with seven assists. Junior forward Lisa Gentile (Utica/Whiteboro) also grabbed eight rebounds.

For the Tigers (2-2), junior forward Ramata Diallo (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) had a game-high 23 points. She was 10 of 13 from the field and led her team with four assists.

Junior forward Margot Sandy (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) added 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Fredonia State's strong start includes a 2-1 record in the State University of New York Athletic Conference.
