Scaffidi moving up assists list

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- With her next assist, Fredonia State senior guard Maria Scaffidi (Buffalo/Holy Angels) will move up one more spot on the all-time career playmaking list.

Scaffidi, a four-year Blue Devil, enters today's game at Hilbert tied for eighth with Natasha Seabrook with 193 career assists. Seabrook played for the Blue Devils from 1989 through 1993.

Scaffidi started the season with 175 assists and already this season has surpassed the career totals of Janice Frost (180; 1992-96) and Carol Messer (189; 1991-95). Next on the list after Seabrook is Renee Harpster (205; 1998-01).

Sherri Ervin (449; 1998-90 and 1991-92) is the school-record holder in the category.

NOTEBOOK: Scaffidi, with 69 career three-point baskets, is closing in the school's top five in the category. Directly ahead of her are Shelly Giardini (73; 1991-95), Harpster (74), and Elissa Galenda (76; 1998-02) ... Senior forward Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) leads SUNYAC in blocked shots at 2.83 per game. She's also second in scoring average (20.3), second in rebounding average (9.7), and sixth in free-throw accuracy (83.9 %) ... Scaffidi and junior guard Leisel Renaud are also among SUNYAC leaders. Scaffidi is fourth in steals (3.17 per game), tied for seventh in assists (3.00/game), and 10th in three-point fieldgoal percentage (35.5%), while Renaud is tied for sixth in steals (2.50/game) ... The Blue Devils have won nine of the 10 previous meetings vs. Hilbert. Game time today on Hilbert's Hamburg, N.Y., campus is 7 p.m.
