Devils use 18-0 run to pull away on SUNYIT

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Four players reached double figures in scoring as Fredonia State defeated SUNYIT, 71-53, at Steele Hall.

Senior forward Lisa Gentile (Utica/Whitesboro) led the Blue Devils (9-11, 5-8 SUNYAC) with 18 points. Junior forward Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) added 14 points, while senior guard Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) and reserve forward Michelle Bull (Machias/Pioneer) added 10 points. Bull was 4 of 4 from the field.

SUNYIT (7-16, 3-11 SUNYAC) led for a good portion of the first half, and were up by as many as seven points, before the Blue Devils surged to a 37-35 halftime lead. The teams were tied twice early in the second half, including 44-44 with 14:43 on a basket by SUNYIT's Jen Vergis.

The Blue Devils scored the next 18 points, including eight straight points by Bull, and six points during the run by Bleecker. The uprising ended with baskets by Gentile and Baker for a 62-44 lead with 3:05 left. A basket by Vergis finally ended SUNYIT's 12-minute scoring drought.

AnnMarie Spaulding had 13 points for SUNYIT, while Stephanie Stokes grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Bleecker had nine rebounds to lead the Blue Devils. She also collected six assists, while Baker had eight assists.

Fredonia State visits Buffalo State on Tuesday.
