Playoff hopes dashed

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Blue Devils fell victim to Buffalo State 60-53 in women's college basketball action on Tuesday evening. The loss eliminated the Devils (7-15, 2-12 SUNYAC) from post-season contention.

Buffalo State's biggest lead was 10 points, coming at 25-15 following a Dalkeithia Layne layup at 9:22 of the first half. Buffalo State would sport a 30-24 lead at the break.

The Devils would fight back to take their last lead with 8:05 left in the game after Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia) converted back-to-back free throws to make it 47-46.

Buffalo State would outscore the Devils 14-6 to give the final. The game featured five lead changes -- all in the second half -- and four ties.

The Blue Devils were paced by senior guard Maria Scaffidi (Buffalo/Holy Angels) with 19 points. Pucciarelli finished with 17 and 11 boards. Senior forward Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Buffalo State claims the fourth playoff spot in the SUNYAC West after going 5-9 in the conference with two conference games left to play. They are 9-14 overall.

The Devils round out the season this weekend with a pair of games in Steele Hall. They play host to Oswego on Friday and Morrisville on Saturday.
