Brockport rolls over Blue Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Brockport jumped to a 12-point halftime lead and rolled on to a 69-53 SUNYAC victory over Fredonia State at Steele Hall.

Down 42-30 at the break, the Blue Devils (8-11, 4-8 SUNYAC) scored the first three baskets of the second half to pull within six points on a jumper by senior forward Melissa Howlett (Avon/Honeoye Falls-Lima). Brockport regained command with a 10-0 over the next seven minutes, capped off by three free throws by junior Ashley Broadhurst (Sauquoit/Utica Notre Dame).

Junior forward Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) led the Blue Devils with 13 points despite playing 22 minutes because of foul trouble. Junior forward Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) scored 10 points off the Blue Devil bench. Senior guard Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) was credited with five assists, while senior forward Lisa Gentile (Utica/Whitesboro) and Bleecker led the Blue Devils with six rebounds each.

For the Golden Eagles (14-5, 8-2 SUNYAC), Broadhurst led the way with 18 points. In the process, she surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her collegiate career. She entered the game with 994 points.

The Blue Devils are back in action with a non-conference game Monday at Thiel.
