Geneseo downs Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Geneseo women downed Fredonia State 75-63 in SUNYAC basketball action on Saturday.

The teams battled to a 30-all halftime score, featuring five lead changes and five ties. Angela Pucciarelli (Fredonia) paced the Devils with 10 first-half points.

Tied 33-all at 19:00 of the second half, Geneseo's Amanda Bihr converted on a free throw that gave the Knights the lead for good.

After the Devils pulled within a point, 48-47, Geneseo took charge of the game with a 14-4 run culminating in a Merrissa Wilson free throw with 4:48 left to give the Knights a 62-51 lead.

Pucciarelli and senior Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) each finished the game with 20 points to lead all scorers. Kindzia added 10 rebounds.

Annie Verdino topped Geneseo with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Tracy Wangelin chipped in 17 off the bench, and Khadija Campbell added 14.

Geneseo improves to 8-11 overall and 6-4 in the SUNYAC. They play host to SUNYIT on Tuesday.

The Devils drop to 6-12 overall and 1-9 in SUNYAC play. They host Buffalo State next Saturday.
