Allegheny's outside game does in Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Three-point shooting carried Allegheny to a 61-52 non-conference victory over Fredonia State at Steele Hall Tuesday.

The Gators (17-5) made 8 of 16 shots from beyond the arc, while the Blue Devils (11-9) were 0 of 7.

While Fredonia State's Amanda Neamon (Arcade/Pioneer) was an inside force, with team highs in points (14) and rebounds (15), Allegheny was led by the outside shooting of Katie Kestler (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Valery Medwid (Pittsburgh, Pa.).

Kestler made two three-pointers and Medwid and Kristen Lyzen (Brook Park, Ohio) one each as the Gators, once trailing 14-12, closed out the first half with a 22-9 run.

The Gators opened a lead of as many as 17 points in the second half.

Kestler finished with 12 points while Medwid and Courtney Steding (McDonald, Pa.) had 11 points for Allegheny, winners of nine straight games.

Freshman Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Devils, who return to SUNYAC action at SUNYIT 6 p.m. Saturday. Sophomore Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) led the Blue Devils with five assists and three steals.
