Devils return home to down Geneseo

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Senior Amanda Neamon (Arcade/Pioneer) had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Fredonia State to a 66-59 SUNYAC home win over Geneseo.

Freshman Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) added 11 points for the Blue Devils (8-5, 3-3). Senior Heather Martin (Allegany/Allegany-Limestone) had an all-around game with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals.

In their first game back home since Dec. 7, the Blue Devils started slowly but eventually pushed out to a 31-22 lead at halftime. Geneseo (4-8, 2-2) battled back to win five points of the lead. But the Blue Devils held on despite Neamon and senior Katie Estes (Olean/Olean) fouling out within a minute of each other with just under five minutes left.

The Blue Devils shot 48 percent from the field (24 of 50) and combined for 15 steals, five by sophomore Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean).

Jessica Chambers (Oneida/Oneida) led Geneseo with 16 points and Katy Irving (Olean/Olean) had 15.

With the win, the Blue Devils equaled their 2003-04 victory total. They were 8-17 in head coach Donna Wise's first season at Fredonia State. They will look to surpass eight wins Friday at Plattsburgh.
