Baker's basket bounces Brockport

FREDONIA, N.Y. – A three-point basket by sophomore Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) broke a late tie and propelled Fredonia State to a 67-61 SUNYAC home win over Brockport.

Baker connected with 1:10 left to break a 61-61 tie. Freshman Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) made two insurance free throws and senior Amanda Neamon (Arcade/Pioneer) added one in the final minute.

Senior Katie Estes (Olean/Olean) had a game-high 17 points for the Blue Devils (3-1, 1-0). Bleecker had 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Freshman Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) added 11 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

The Golden Eagles (0-4, 0-1) trailed 36-33 at halftime and were behind by as many as eight points in the second half before rallying to notch a 57-57 tie on a basket by junior Megan Baldwin (Glenmont/Bethlem) with 6:06 remaining. A basket by senior Mary Ahrens (Rochester/Gates Chili) put Brockport up 59-57, but the lead was brief. The teams traded baskets before Baker put the Devils up for good with her trey.

Brockport had three players score in double figures. Freshman Ashley Broadhurst (Sauquoit/Utica Notre Dame) led with 15 points. She also was credited with seven of her team's 18 steals. Ahrens and junior Lauren Evans (Auburn/Auburn) had 10 points each.

Next game for Fredonia State is Fri., Dec. 3, at home against New Paltz.
