Women's Basketball

Oswego takes Skidmore tourney title

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Oswego won the 27th Skidmore Invitational with a 71-58 victory Sunday over Fredonia State.

Kelly Mraz had 15 points and nine assists for the Lakers (2-0). She was named the most valuable player of the tournament.

Down 42-27 at halftime, the Blue Devils (1-1) outscored the Lakers 31-29 in the second half. Sophomore Melissa Howlett (Avon/Honeoye Falls-Lima) had 19 points in 12 minutes of duty.

Senior Katie Estes (Olean/Olean) and freshman Daniele Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) were selected to the all-tournament team. Estes had 14 points and six rebounds against Oswego. Bleecker added 10 points.

Freshman Cheryl Kindzia (Wiliamsville/Williamsville North) led Fredonia State with seven rebounds.

The Blue Devils are back in action 6 p.m. Tuesday in the home opener against D'Youville, the first game of a women's-men's doubleheader.
