Sophomore Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) led the Blue Devils (1-0) with 12 points. Freshman Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) added 10 points and shared the team lead with three steals. Three players had nine points each: seniors Katie Estes (Olean/Olean) and Amanda Neamon (Arcade/Pioneer), and sophomore Jill Ratchuk (Buffalo/Mount Mercy). Estes and Neamon grabbed 14 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Fredonia State had a 49-27 rebounding advantage resulting in 21 second-chance points (to 7 for Skidmore). The Blue Devils scored 26 points-in-the-paint to Skidmore's 16. Another telling statistic was Fredonia State's 25-11 margin in points off turnovers. The Thoroughbreds (0-1) committed 30 turnovers and never led. Forced to play catch-up, they were a mere 3 of 21 from three-point range. The Invitational resumes Sunday with the consolation and championship games. Fredonia State plays Oswego in the title game starting at 2 p.m. The Lakers advanced with a 92-24 victory over City College of New York in the other first-round game played Saturday.
